Dhaka National Medical College, Bangladesh
Dhaka National Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh, was established in 1925 as the Dhaka National Medical Institute. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1972, the Dhaka National Medical Institute stopped functioning, although the associated hospital remained active. The medical college was restored with the creation of the Dhaka National Medical College on 15 October 1994 and was opened to its first students.
Dhaka National Medical College has an 850 bedded multidisciplinary hospital complex next to the academic building. The college offers a five-year course of study followed by a one-year internship, approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), leading to a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Dhaka University.

Dhaka National Medical College- College Building
The campus of Dhaka National Medical College is an eleven storied building with 14,000 sq ft. floor space in each floor. The total floor space thus is 1,54,000 sq ft. and the college building is centrally air-conditioned with 24 hours lift services. The college building has administrative sections, 8 departments, a library, 5 lecture galleries, large examination hall, one conference room, one seminar room, one teacher’s lounge, male & female students common rooms. The departments in the college are Department of Anatomy, Department of Physiology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Department of Community Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine, Department of Microbiology, Department of Pathology, Teachers Room, Tutorial Room, Practical Laboratory and Museum. A separate fully air-conditioned Anatomy Dissection Hall of 6,000 sqft. is also present in the Department of Anatomy.
Dhaka National Medical College- Hospital & Library
A seven-storied hospital building was built in 1982 and a new six-storied hospital building of Dhaka National Medical College was built in 2009 with a total of 650 beds. The hospital has well-equipped operation theatre, a laboratory for investigation, out-patient departments, doctors and nurses resident quarters.
The Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital is the designated teaching hospital of the college. It has a 650 bedded multidisciplinary hospital complex next to the academic building.
Other Government teaching hospitals are also used for the teaching & training purposes including Chest Hospital, Cancer Hospital & Institute of Psychiatry & Infectious Diseases Hospital. Transport is provided to the students for this purpose by the college.
Following successful completion of First Professional MBBS examination, students are placed in different departments/units of the hospital for clinical training and ward – duties as per roster suggested in the BM & DC curriculum. Transport is provided to carry the students from the college to different primary healthcare centres and back as part of their clinical.

Accommodation Facility at Dhaka National Medical College
DNMC is one of the best medical colleges located in old Dhaka. It provides fully furnished and separate hostels for both boys and girls. It has 229 rooms for boys which can accommodate 365 male students. For girls, it has 93 rooms for 282 seats female students. The hostels maintain full arrangements for the safety and security of the students. 24 hours CCTV monitoring is maintained at the hostels. TV facility is made available at the boy’s hostel.
A dining facility is also available wherein 100 boys and 35 girls can dine together at a time. TV facility is available in the dining room for the girl’s hostel.
