Before we know about MBBS abroad, we must know about FMGE and NEXT.
Earlier, the students who used to study MBBS from abroad were required to give a licensing exam whereas the students studying in India were not required to sit for any such exam. This licensing exam for foreign medical graduates was called the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination). It was also known as the MCI Screening Test. Only students who have studied from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada were exempted.
“Candidate seeking provisional or permanent registration shall not have to qualify the licensing exam if he/she holds an Under Graduate medical qualification from Australia/Canada/New Zealand/United Kingdom/United States of America and the holder thereof has also been awarded a Post Graduate medical qualification in Australia/Canada/New Zealand/ United Kingdom/United States of America and has been recognized for enrolment as a medical practitioner in that country.”
